Everton have joined the race to sign Dominik Szoboszlai after the Red Bull Salzburg starlet hit a stunning hat-trick last weekend, as reported by TuttoJuve.

Gylfi Sigurdsson must be glancing nervously over his shoulder as the summer transfer window looms into view.

The £45 million playmaker has had a season to forget at Goodison Park and found himself left out of the starting XI for 19-year-old Anthony Gordon during Sunday’s Merseyside derby snoozefest.

And with Everton having been linked with a whole host of fresh-faced attacking midfielders with an eye for goal, the next few weeks feel rather make-or-break for Sigurdsson’s Toffees career.

Especially with TuttoJuve reporting that Szoboszlai is the latest highly-talented number ten on Everton’s radar.

Arguably the most talented Hungarian footballer since their ‘Mighty Magyars’ heyday, the £25 million-rated set-piece specialist also has admirers at Juventus, Napoli and Borussia Dortmund, while Arsenal, Leicester and Liverpool have been linked of late too.

Szoboszlai has produced 13 assists and nine goals during a sensational 2019/20 campaign – and hit a maiden career hat-trick during Salzburg’s 5-1 thrashing of Sturm Graz earlier this month.

The Budapest-born 19-year-old compares himself to Toni Kroos and Paul Pogba, speaking to Goal. But, in truth, he is better with a dead ball than even the stars of Real Madrid and Manchester United.

Three of his goals have come from free-kicks this season.

Sigurdsson’s status not only as Everton’s number ten, but also their set-piece specialist, could be under more threat than ever.
