What a superb season Everton are having so far.

It’s early days, obviously, but Carlo Ancelotti’s troops have won all three of their Premier League games and scored eight goals along the way, conceding three.

They’re third in the table and any Everton fan alive would snatch your hand off if you offered them the chance to finish there come May.

Much of their red-hot form could be traced to the pre-season signings.

So far, Everton have signed James Rodriguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure but, according to Sky Sports News, the Toffees want another body in before Monday’s deadline.

The Goodison Park side have apparently asked Norwich City about signing 22-year-old defender Ben Godfrey.

Sky Sports News claim that the Canaries want £25 million for the big centre-back, but Everton are only interested in a loan move at the moment after their earlier expenditure.

If Everton can stump up the £25 million needed for a permanent deal, they should.

Yes, Godfrey started 30 Premier League games for a City side that conceded 75 goals en route to being relegated last season.

But he’s still so young and Rio Ferdinand, who knows a thing or two about central defenders, claimed that he’s a player with ‘huge potential’ [The Express].

Even without Godfrey, Ancelotti still might mastermind a strong season, but things can go wrong very quickly and the beefier your defence, the better your chances of minimising disaster.
