According to SPORT, Everton are interested in signing Barcelona wonderkid Arnau Comas, who Xavi is said to be a huge fan of.

What’s the story?

Well, after spending just £1.8m over the summer, money is clearly tight at Everton right now.

Luckily for Rafa Benitez and Marcel Brands, the centre-back could be signed on a free transfer with his contract set to expire in June 2022.

SPORT believe that may not turn out to be the case, as Comas loves Barcelona and is determined to be a success at the Camp Nou.

The 21-year-old has a good chance of doing that, in our view.

A separate article from SPORT claimed that Xavi is keeping a close eye on Comas, after Ronald Koeman included him in Barcelona’s pre-season plans.

SPORT describe the Spaniard as an ‘extension of the coach’ on the pitch, as well as someone who is ‘tactically privileged, works well with the ball and is good in the air’ – he sounds like a huge prospect.

Everton interest in Arnau Comas is good to see

When detailing Everton’s alleged interest in the 32-year-old Ivan Perisic yesterday, we had a bit of a moan about the club’s transfer strategy – or lack of one, in fact.

Signings like the Croatian, and Salomon Rondon, are made with the immediate future in mind, and have few benefits for Everton in the long term.

Contrastingly, bringing Comas to Goodison Park would represent a nice change for the Toffees.

Aside from Ben Godfrey, it’s not often that Everton make signings who can go on to become future superstars, as well as help out in the present.

Additionally, Comas seems like a natural leader, so Everton wouldn’t just be getting a potential star of the future, but also someone who could captain them.

By all accounts, this would be a tremendous deal if Everton can convince him to swap Catalonia for Merseyside.
