According to TuttoJuve, Everton are interested in Juventus glovesman Wojciech Szczęsny as they scan the market for shot-stoppers.
The Italian news outlet claim that the Toffees could soon make a bid for the 31-year-old, who Juventus signed from Arsenal for £10 million.
TuttoJuve claim that Everton are keen, but are not willing to offer more than €10 million (£8.6 million) to sign the 52-cap Poland international.
In our view, that seems strange.
It feels unlikely that Everton will be able to sign the No.1 goalkeeper from one of Europe’s biggest clubs for such a small fee.
They’ll surely have to offer a lot more.
It would make sense if Szczęsny’s contract was expiring soon.
However, the Pole’s deal in Turin runs until June 2024.
Aside from their strange stance over the fee, Everton have definitely identified the right man.
Szczęsny shone for Arsenal during his time in England, where he made 132 Premier League appearances for the Gunners.
In that time, he kept a respectable 48 clean sheets.
Since leaving the Emirates Stadium, Szczęsny has won six trophies, while also gaining valuable experience in the Champions League.
With questions marks still surrounding Jordan Pickford, this would be a fantastic signing if Marcel Brands can pull it off.
