Everton and Arsenal are reportedly keen on Getafe’s Djene Dakonam.

Dakonam Djene of Getafe looks on during the La Liga match between Villarreal and Getafe at Estadio de la Ceramica on February 25, 2018 in Villarreal, Spain.

According to Mundo Deportivo in Spain, Everton are ‘waiting’ to make a move for Getafe defender Djene Dakonam – but face competition from Arsenal and Leicester City.

Getafe have been the surprise story of this season in La Liga, as the find themselves in contention for a Champions League place next season.

A number of players have starred this season, but defender Dakonam has continued his remarkable rise to prominence with another superb campaign.

Dakonam, 27, is something of a late bloomer, having been a complete unknown even when he joined Getafe from Sint-Truidense, having previously been with Alcorcon, Coton Sport and Tonnerre d’Abomey.

The 5ft 10in centre back has become an unlikely hero at Getafe, and is now attracting major interest from Premier League clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.

Mundo Deportivo claim that Everton are waiting to make a move for Dakonam this summer, but so are Leicester City, whilst Arsenal are also joining the race for the Togo international.

Dakonam has a €35million (£30million) release clause in his contract, and getting into the Champions League would certainly help Getafe demand that full amount.

Yet having such big clubs wanting to sign him may be too much for Dakonam to turn down after a modest career so far, though just how a 5ft 10in centre back would fare in the Premier League is something to monitor.
