Everton and Leicester City are both hoping to steal a march on Tottenham Hotspur by making a move to sign James Maddison.

James Maddison of England U21 in action during the U21 European Championship Qualifier match between England U21 and Ukraine U21 at Bramell Lane on March 27, 2018 in Sheffield, England.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror’s live transfer feed (10/06; 13:15), Everton and Leicester City are both planning to make their moves for James Maddison imminently in the hope of stealing a march on the likes of Tottenham.

Maddison enjoyed a stunning season in the Championship, scoring 14 goals and contributing eight assists for the Canaries. It appears almost inevitable that he will be playing top flight football next season.

The Mirror reports on its live transfer blog (10/06; 13:15) that Everton and Leicester are both plotting to make their move for the £25 million-rated playmaker as early as this coming week through fear that the likes of Spurs and Manchester City will follow up on their initial interest.

It would be a fantastic statement for the Toffees if they managed to win the race given the clubs that are currently after Maddison’s signature. Marco Silva will be hoping that his side can excite the Goodison Park faithful after such an underwhelming campaign last time out, and signing Maddison would certainly boost the team’s chances of capturing the imagination.

Mauricio Pochettino manager

It will be interesting to see whether Everton and Leicester’s expected bids prompt Mauricio Pochettino to consider his own move as it would arguably be a bigger gamble for Spurs to meet his asking price given their priorities next season.

Maddison would be under greater pressure to hit the ground running at Spurs than he perhaps would be at Everton or with the Foxes, so Pochettino may want longer to make up his mind on a potential pursuit. Unfortunately for the Tottenham boss however, it appears that he may be rushed into a decision if the latest reports are correct.
