Everton striker Lewis Dobbin is reportedly attracting interest from a number of top clubs, but the Toffees are determined to keep him.
According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (9/6; page 61), Everton are keen to hand Lewis Dobbin a new contract with a number of sides interested in poaching the striker this summer.
Dobbin is one of the most exciting talents currently coming through at Goodison Park. He made seven appearances for the club in the under-18 Premier League this past season, scoring once and providing four assists.
The Sun on Sunday (9/6; page 61) reports that a number of ‘bigger’ clubs are tracking the 16-year-old, with those sides coming from both England as well as from abroad.
But the report notes that Everton plan to offer Dobbin – who was born the day before Shrewsbury stunned the Toffees in the third round of the FA Cup back in 2003 – a ‘lucrative’ contract to stay on Merseyside.
It would be a boost for Marco Silva’s men to keep a player who is so highly rated by both the club and a number of other sides. Everton have had a number of academy graduates force their way into the current first-team picture, and there appears to be several who are threatening to break through in the near future.
Dobbin is probably still some way off being ready for that stage. But Everton know better than most how it is not out of the question for 16-year-old strikers to make an impact in the first-team.
