According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton are holding more talks with Rafa Benítez today as the hunt for Carlo Ancelotti’s replacement drags on.
What’s the story?
Well, the Toffees held initial discussions with the 61-year-old about replacing Ancelotti, and they clearly went well.
As a result, Everton have decided to hold further discussions with the Spaniard, and hope to make a decision soon.
In fact, the Liverpool Echo claim they’ve been told that Everton expect to have made an appointment early next week.
Interestingly, the Liverpool Echo add that Benítez is actually expecting to be offered the job.
Should he be hired, it would be the fifth managerial appointment in as many years for the Toffees.
That isn’t exactly good – it reeks of instability at Goodison Park.

After photos emerged of anti-Benítez banners on the blue half of Merseyside, his arrival seemingly wouldn’t go down too well with fans.
It appears his ties with Liverpool have tarnished his image in the minds of some Everton supporters, and they simply will not welcome him to the club.
In our view, it’s not worth the hassle.
If Benítez gets the job, but is booed every week and hated by the supporters, then what’s the point?
Marcel Brands is even said to be wary of hiring him, and we don’t blame the Dutchman for feeling that way.
However, some on the board at Everton do want the Spaniard, so there is a real divide at Goodison Park right now.
Everton run a huge risk if they appoint him.
If he becomes unsettled and quits due to his unpopularity, the Toffees will be back to square one, and will have to endure this whole process all over again.
