According to a report from Tutto Mercato Web, Everton are set to hold a meeting to decide whether a move for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani is feasible.

The Toffees may have splashed the cash over the summer on the likes of Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Nikola Vlasic, Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney over the summer, but more spending is expected in January.

Ronald Koeman’s men have made a disappointing start to the season, taking just seven points from six Premier League games, with another striker an absolute must when the transfer window re-opens, having failed to replace Romelu Lukaku following his summer move to Manchester United.

Oumar Niasse may have scored twice against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, but Everton are expected to spend big on a new striker – and Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani could be a top target.

Tutto Mercato Web report that the Toffees are set to hold a meeting over Cavani, in order to determine whether a January move for the Uruguayan is realistic as they look for a new talisman up front.

Cavani, 30, made his name with 104 goals in 138 games for Napoli following a 2010 move from Palermo, and his 2013 switch to Paris Saint-Germain has given him a platform to become one of Europe’s top strikers, with a record of 22 goals in 37 games in Champions League football for PSG.

With 139 goals in 207 for PSG, Cavani has scored on a regular basis for the French giants, but a recent row over penalty-taking duties with new signing Neymar has resulted in speculation over his future at the Parc des Princes.

Cavani would cost a huge sum, and whilst Everton and Farhad Moshiri may be willing to invest heavily in a new striker, Cavani may well be just beyond their reach, hence the alleged reports of a meeting behind held to discuss the viability of a January bid.
