Reported Everton target Matthew Hoppe has been offered to La Liga side RCD Mallorca.
According to Diario de Mallorca, Schalke 04 have offered the American striker to the Balearic Island club for just €3m (£2.5m).
The German side have been open to selling Hoppe all summer, with Everton one of many sides interested in the striker this window as reported by Bild.
However, the Toffees have yet to submit an offer for the attacker. And Mallorca now look like the side in pole position to snap up the 20-year-old striker on deadline day. The window in Germany closes earlier than other European countries, so a deal will have to be done soon.
With Moise Kean set to depart Everton for a return to Juventus, a replacement striker would have been helpful this window for Rafa Benitez.
Indeed, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has continued his impressive form from last season into the 2021/22 campaign.
But with the England international currently out injured, an understudy would have been ideal for Everton.
And given Hoppe’s experience and age in the German top-flight, the youngster could have been perfect for the Premier League side.
However, Mallorca now look like the side that will win the race for Hoppe. With the sixth-place La Liga side backed by American investors, it makes sense why they would target one of the USMNT’s most exciting talents, especially for a fee as cheap as £2.5m.
