Everton were hopeful that they would be able to sign Manchester City youngster Lukas Nmecha in the summer.

The Sun on Sunday reports that the Toffees had hoped that they would be able to bring the 19-year-old to Goodison Park in the summer as his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

However, the England youth international – who has scored eight goals in seven games for the Cityzens’ under-23s this season – has been convinced to stay with Manchester City, according to The Sun on Sunday, with Pep Guardiola urging him to fight for his future.

Based on Nmecha’s record this season, it would have undoubtedly been a massive coup for Everton had they managed to get a deal across the line and had convinced him to make the switch to Merseyside.
And it may not be a surprise if they keep a keen eye on the teenager’s progress in the coming months and years as there may be more questions and uncertainty regarding his future if the path to the first-team with Manchester City does not become clearer at some stage down the line.
