Everton are reportedly keen on Genoa’s Diego Laxalt.

Diego Laxalt of Genoa reacts with disappointment after a missed chance during the serie A match between Genoa CFC and Torino FC at Stadio Luigi Ferraris on May 20, 2018 in Genoa, Italy.

According to The Sun, Everton are interested in signing Genoa’s Diego Laxalt this summer in order to solve their major problem at left back.

The Toffees have yet to make a new signing this summer and are one of the few Premier League clubs yet to dip into the market, but it’s clear that there is one position that needs urgent attention at Goodison Park.

Whilst Leighton Baines has been a superb servant since his 2007 move from Wigan Athletic, he is now 33 and struggling for consistent fitness, whilst he also has no real cover.

Signing a left back is paramount for new director of football Marcel Brands, but with a move for Celtic’s Kieran Tierney seemingly dead, The Sun now report that the Toffees are turning to Genoa’s Diego Laxalt.

It’s claimed that Everton could rival Bournemouth and Crystal Palace for Laxalt, with the Uruguayan valued at £18million after catching the eye at the World Cup.

Laxalt, 25, was left out of Uruguay’s first two games but became vital as Oscar Tabarez’s side reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup, and Laxalt may just earn a move off the back of his displays.

Formerly of Inter Milan, Laxalt has played on the left of midfield, as a left wing back and as a left back, thriving no matter where he has been used on the left having displayed superb pace and attacking play.

Genoa won’t want to sell Laxalt, but with three Premier League clubs now keen, they may have to face up to the prospect of losing the Uruguayan star this summer.
