Everton are reportedly keen on Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck.

According to The Mirror, Everton are interested in landing Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck should they fail to land his Gunners team-mate Olivier Giroud before the end of the transfer window.

The Toffees have enjoyed a strong summer, with Ronald Koeman bringing in Jordan Pickford, Cuco Martina, Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen, Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney all joining the Toffees, whilst youngsters like Lewis Gibson and Josh Bowler have also arrived.

However, despite bringing in Sandro and Rooney, Everton still lack a top striker having sold Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United earlier this summer, and a host of centre forwards have been linked with moves to Goodison Park.

Now, The Mirror report that Everton are still hoping to sign Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, but if they can’t land the Frenchman, then they will turn their attention to his Gunners team-mate Danny Welbeck.

Welbeck, 26, left boyhood club Manchester United to join Arsenal in 2014 as he attempted to play regular first-team football, but he has run into similar problems at the Emirates Stadium, with strong competition for places and his own injury problems leaving him as a bit-part player.

Welbeck’s record for Arsenal currently stands at 17 goals in 69 games, and after just eight league starts, the England international may now want another fresh start as Everton line up a move.

The Toffees lack real pace going forward, and the rangy Welbeck would give them both speed and a focal point in attack, as well as a chance at guaranteed first-team football if he can stay fit, as the problem with Welbeck has been more about his injuries than his ability.

A fee of £30million has been mentioned for Welbeck, which would continue Everton’s summer spending spree – though Giroud still appears to be Everton’s prime target to boost their goal threat.
