Everton are now looking to lure Arsenal utility man Ainsley Maitland-Niles to Goodison Park before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
That’s according to Sky Sports, who claim that Everton are now exploring a loan move to bring Maitland-Niles up to Merseyside.
It’s noted that relations between Everton and Arsenal are strong after deals involving Alex Iwobi and Theo Walcott in 2018 and 2019.
Other Premier League clubs re claimed to be keen, but Everton are now thought to be favourites for his signature.
Maitland-Niles was convinced to stay at Arsenal in the summer of 2020 after showing real promise under Mikel Arteta, but then faded out of the Spaniard’s plans.
Come January, Maitland-Niles decided to leave on loan for West Bromwich Albion, playing mostly in his preferred position as a central midfield.
Often deployed as a right back at Arsenal, Maitland-Niles prefers playing in midfield – even though Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink thinks he has been ‘absolutely brilliant’ in full back or wing back roles.

So just where would Maitland-Niles fit in at Everton?
The Toffees are seeking competition for Seamus Coleman, meaning Maitland-Niles may have to accept playing as a right back once again.
Playing in midfield for Everton just doesn’t seem likely right now, but he could land a regular role at Goodison Park if he accepts playing in defence again.
