Mbaye Niang chose to move to Watford in January despite Everton’s attempts to sign him on loan from Serie A giants Milan.

With just a day remaining in the transfer window, a powerful centre-forward remains the main priority for Ronald Koeman. A new centre-half to replace the injured Ramiro Funes Mori wouldn’t go amiss either.

However, with Kevin Mirallas’ on the wrong side of the manager, left out of Sunday’s trip to Chelsea, the prospect of Everton adding another wideman to their ranks cannot be discounted.

And, after months of speculation, Tuttomercatoweb report that The Toffees are still interested in AC Milan’s Mbaye Niang – whose future at the San Siro is still up in the air.

AC Milan's forward from France Mbaye Niang kicks and fail a penalty kick during the Italian Serie A football match Roma vs AC Milan at the Olympic Stadium in Roma on December 12, 2016.

The 22-year-old looked to have won over manager Vincenzo Montella after impressing in pre-season, particularly in the 4-0 battering of Bayern Munich, but hasn’t featured in either of Milan’s first two Serie A games in 2017/18.

Second time lucky?

Tuttomercatoweb report that Niang has turned down the chance to sign for Spartak Moscow, Russian Premier League champions last season, and is pushing for a move to Torino instead. However, Sinisa Mihajlovic’s side are still around £5 million away from Milan’s asking price.

Consequently, Everton are circling along with Watford, where Niang spent the second half of last season on loan.

This comes just six months after the Frenchman told Watford’s official website that he rejected the chance to move to Goodison Park in January as he felt Everton did not put in enough work to convince him to make the move.

Time will tell whether The Toffees pull out all the stops to sign a player who, at 22, has boundless potential and is in need of a stable club to help him progress.
