Everton boss Ronald Koeman reportedly wanted the Leicester City winger while at Southampton.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman is stepping up his interest in Leicester City winger Demarai Gray, reports the Daily Mirror.
The Toffees could be without Yannick Bolasie until 2018 after the Congolese suffered serious ligament damage in Sunday’s draw with Manchester United, and it is claimed that Gray – a player Koeman targeted while managing Southampton – is the man the Dutchman wants to replace him.
According to the Daily Mirror, Gray was on Everton’s list of potential summer targets, but an earlier approach could not be on the cards.
Gray arrived at the King Power Stadium from Birmingham City in January 2016 – despite alleged interest from Southampton, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur – but has started just six times for the Foxes in total – and this is said to have alerted the Toffees.
The Merseyside club have already been linked with a number of wingers ahead of the January transfer window, and the England Under-21 star may not be the only one to arrive at Goodison Park.
Gray helped Leicester to the Premier League title last season, but with Claudio Ranieri’s side only two points above the bottom three this time around, he may be tempted to depart.
