Italian outlet CMW claim that Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure could join Juventus on a free transfer if the Toffees do not decide to extend his contract at Goodison Park – which is due to expire at the end of the season.

Doucoure, 29, signed a three-year deal at Everton in the summer of 2020 when he joined the club from Watford. Costing the Toffees a fee of £20m, he got off to a wonderful start. But his form has declined since that first term.

Indeed, injury has hampered the two-time Mali international. This season, he has had a couple of issues – limiting Doucoure to just three starts, only two of which have come in the Premier League. His deal ends next summer.

Everton have an option to extend the contract his deal by another 12 months. But if the Merseyside outfit decide not to activate that extension, then Juventus will look to pursue a deal to sign the ex-Watford star on a free transfer.

Especially, if Adrien Rabiot decides to leave Juventus in January – or next summer. Rabiot, like Doucoure, is out of contract in June. TuttoMercatoWeb reported this week that Arsenal and Tottenham are keen to bring in Rabiot.

Everton midfielder Doucoure could join Juventus on a free, in for Rabiot

Doucoure, at his best, is a big player for Everton. But while he is injured or struggling to get back to full fitness, he is a player that is on a big contract, struggling to make an impact. Everton have got to make a big decision on him.

Do they extend and hope the injuries clear up, and the midfielder can rediscover his best form? Or, given Doucoure turns 30 on January 1, do they decide that Doucoure’s time at Everton is up next summer and sign someone else.
