Everton are pursuing a deal for Sheffield United striker Daniel Jebbison – a player they had on trial and chose not to sign in 2019.

That’s according to The Athletic, who state that Everton actually had Jebbison training with them two years ago, before committing his future to Sheffield United.

It’s understood that some staff at Goodison Park actually wanted Jebbison signed back then, but people higher up at Everton chose not to strike a deal.

Jebbison then showed Everton what they were missing by scoring against the Toffees at Goodison Park on his first Premier League start back in May.

Everton have now decided they do want Jebbison after all, and have failed with a first bid of £5million plus add-ons.

The Toffees aren’t giving up though, and are expected to come back in with another bid for the giant striker before the transfer deadline.

Jebbison, 18, was born in Canada but has represented England at Under-18 level.

Big, physical and mobile, Jebbison has earned comparisons to Dominic Calvert-Lewin – a striker who came up through the Sheffield United ranks before joining Everton.

If Jebbison ends up signing for Everton too, the comparisons to Calvert-Lewin will only continue.

There isn’t long left for Everton to get a deal done, but it looks like they’re trying to correct an error they made just a couple of years ago.

That mistake will now cost them millions, but at least some at Goodison Park would be glad to have finally landed Jebbison.
