Both Everton and Tottenham are trying for two audacious transfer swoops for James Rodriguez and Donny van de Beek, respectively this summer, and they have received some potentially good news in the pursuit of their signatures.
Dutch outlet AD has claimed that Van de Beek was left out of Ajax’s pre-season friendly against Frankfurt yesterday, with his agent not wanting the player to risk any injury with a move to the Premier League beckoning.
Although it’s not yet known where the Dutchman is heading, Sport have reported that Tottenham made contact with Ajax for their academy product.
If Spurs do somehow pull off that deal then it would be some coup for the North London side, but they aren’t the only ones trying to make their names heard in the transfer market.
In perhaps more encouraging news over at Goodison Park, talkSPORT have reported that Real Madrid superstar, Rodriguez, will be undergoing a medical next week as a move to Goodison Park edges closer.
There’s no doubt that the Evertonians will be more optimistic in landing their man compared to the London side, but if both do join then it will certainly add some much-needed spice to their midfield.

Rodriguez has been around longer and has seemingly fallen off a cliff since that 2014 World Cup, but he was still able to produce his magic at Madrid by winning the Champions League under a certain Carlo Ancelotti.
The Columbian would add something different to the Premier League than Van de Beek because he is someone who sets the tone and controls game, whilst the former keeps opposition defences on the back foot and tries to produce that moment of magic.
It will be interesting to see what names Ancelotti and Jose Mourinho can pull through the doors because they still have that power about them when it comes to world football.

The problem for Spurs is that they aren’t in the Champions League, but at least they have the comfort of Europa League football.
For Everton, they aren’t in Europe at all, so potentially snapping up a player like Rodriguez is some going, but it has to be questioned where his career is headed because he does need picking up.
Either way, these are exciting times for those in North London and the blue half of Merseyside.
