Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara is a summer target for Southampton, Everton, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace, according to claims from 90Min.

With one Glasgow giant desperate to end their green-clad rivals’ nine-year reign at the top of Scottish football, growing interest in one of their most influential players is not exactly welcome.

Kamara has played the full 90 minutes in both Rangers’ Premiership games thus far, and he made a major impact last season as Steven Gerrard’s side reached the knockout rounds of European competition for the first time since 2011.

But, with the Finland international threatening to outgrow the relatively small pond that is Scottish football, plenty of clubs from south of the border are forming an orderly queue.

90Min claims that Kamara, a former Arsenal youngster, has admirers at Everton, Newcastle, Palace, Southampton and Sheffield United.

Championship duo Norwich City and Brentford are interested too, while both Dinamo Kiev and Dinamo Moscow are planning offers of £10 million.

Gerrard would understandably be loathe to lose a man whose blend of class and combativeness makes him a key figure in the centre of the park, providing a link between midfield and attack, especially as Rangers may struggle to find a replacement of equal quality.

But the prospect of an almighty profit is some consolation at least.

After all, Rangers paid just £50,000 to sign Kamara from Dundee in January 2019 – a remarkable fee in this day and age.

“You still sometimes have to pinch yourself to realise what we got him for and where he was at, with all due respect,” Gerrard told the Sun last year.

“It’s very rare to take someone of his quality for what we got him for. We’re just delighted we’ve got him here for a long time.”
