According to a report from the Northern Echo, Everton are ‘poised’ to step up their interest in Jamaal Lascelles imminently as West Ham prepare to make a second bid for the Newcastle United skipper.

Lascelles seems to have been linked with many top sides in the Premier League after a superb first season back in the top flight with the Magpies, but it appears that the Hammers may currently be leading the charge having reportedly already seen an offer worth £25 million rejected by Newcastle.

The Northern Echo reports that West Ham are expected to return with another bid, but Everton are also now planning to step up their own interest in the 24-year-old – though Newcastle have absolutely no desire to sell the defender.

It would appear that the Toffees may be about to bid for the former Nottingham Forest man, but it would also seem that they may have to put a staggering amount of money on the table to tempt the Magpies into discussing a potential sale.

Lascelles is a hugely important member of Rafa Benitez’s squad and losing him this summer would be a huge setback ahead of the coming season, especially as Newcastle have not exactly slammed on the accelerator when it comes to making signings in the window.

Replacing Lascelles would be a huge task for the Magpies with the new season emerging on the horizon, so Everton should perhaps sense that the asking price is only going to increase considerably the longer they leave it to make a bid – though it would appear that an offer may not be too far away.
