Everton are the latest club to have expressed an interest in the remarkably potent Richmond Boakye.
There aren’t many more fearsome strikers in Europe right now than Richmond Boakye. Though the Ghanaian goal-machine is far from a household name, his remarkable performances for Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade are attracting plenty of attention.
Boakye has scored 43 goals for club and country in 2017 – a tally that puts him among the very best on the continent. So its little surprise, then, that the 24-year-old looks set to be a man in demand when the January transfer window opens in a months time.
The Mail reported that Chelsea were interested, with manager Antonio Conte having brought Boakye to Juventus back in 2012. Scottish champions Celtic were also understood to be tracking the prolific striker, along with Crystal Palace and Swansea City.
The £10 million-rated Boakye even told Tuttomercatoweb at the weekend that he would be open to the idea of working with Conte again at Stamford Bridge.
And another Premier League side, Everton, were understood to have watched Boakye in action against Cologne in the Europa League recently, per Hot Sport. And now, Belgian publication DH claims that The Toffees are set to begin their ‘mission’ to sign Boakye in January as interest hots up.
Everton’s top scorer in the Premier League this season is Oumar Niasse with just five. Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Sandro Ramirez have all struggled to fill the boots of departed star man Romelu Lukaku.
And while some Everton fans will be concerned that Boakye has never proven himself in a major European league, his goalscoring record in Serbia suggests that he is worth taking a chance on.
