On deadline day, the Liverpool Echo reported that Rangers had registered their interest in a late deal to sign Besic.
However, they signed Zungu instead, suggesting that Besic was just a backup target for the Gers all along.
The deadline passed without Besic leaving Everton, but he clearly has no future at the club under Carlo Ancelotti and is becoming a forgotten man.
Now, the Liverpool Echo suggest that Everton are now looking for a Championship club to take Besic on their hands.
EFL clubs can still sign players from Premier League sides until October 16th, meaning Everton have more than a week to find Besic a new club.
Besic, 28, is out of contract next summer, and will be looking for first-team playing time after a frustrating year on loan at Sheffield United.
The Bosnian could be appealing to Championship clubs having impressed in the second tier during 18 months on loan at Middlesbrough, with Everton now scrambling after that move to Rangers failed to come to fruition.
