Report: Everton rule out loan exit for 23-year-old but would sell him for £16.6m

Everton fans are arguably the happiest supporters in the Premier League at the moment. The Toffees have a brand new midfield thanks to the signings of Allan, James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Carlo Ancelotti will be eyeing a strong finish in his first full season in charge of the club. The three new arrivals have a brilliant combination of experience and quality, something that Everton lacked in midfield last term.

Now that that’s done, Everton have to take care of other business. The Toffees rejected the opportunity to sign Djibril Sidibe on a permanent deal at the end of his loan spell from Monaco.

That leaves them with just Seamus Coleman and Jonjoe Kenny at right-back. Both players are Everton through and through, but the Toffees are reportedly looking to sell one of them.

Liverpool Echo claimed last month that the Toffees are open to offers for the 23-year-old. Kenny enjoyed a successful loan spell at Schalke last season and the Royal Blues are keen to take him back.

However, Everton have categorically ruled out another loan move for the Englishman, but they are ready to sell him for a fee of around £16.6 million this summer. (Sport1)

That, from the outside, is a strange decision. Kenny had an excellent season on loan last term. With Sidibe now gone, many expected him to stay as a cover to Coleman, but it looks like Ancelotti doesn’t rate him too highly.

Schalke cannot afford the Toffees’ asking-price for Kenny this summer. “Everton told us in the talks that they are only selling the player. We can’t do that. That is the deal,” said the Bundesliga side’s sports director Jochen Schneider. (Sport1)

It will be interesting to see if Everton can get a buyer for Kenny. Over £16 million for a player who has only played 62 top-flight league games in his career is a lot of money, especially in the current financial climate.

Kenny could well end up staying at Everton this summer as a result. If he does, he will get a chance to impress Ancelotti, which could open up the opportunity for him to succeed, just like Mason Holgate did last season.
