According to the Daily Mail, Everton are rivalling Chelsea, Leicester City and Manchester United in the race for Middlesbrough defender Dael Fry.
The Toffees are enduring a dismal start to the season, with Sunday’s 1-0 home defeat to Burnley piling the pressure on beleaguered manager Ronald Koeman.
Whilst Koeman’s biggest problem is the disjointed attacking displays since the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United, his defence has also been disastrous.
Michael Keane appears to have lost confidence since joining from Burnley, whilst Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams are showing their age, with Ramiro Funes Mori out injured in an unconvincing set of centre back options for Koeman.
A younger centre back may be targeted in January, and the Daily Mail now report that Everton are one of a number of Premier League teams interested in signing Middlesbrough’s Dael Fry.
Fry, 20, was born in Middlesbrough and has come up through the ranks with his hometown team, and he has already made 11 appearances in all competitions this season having impressed Garry Monk.
Fry’s exploits at the Riverside Stadium are now attracting interest, with the reports suggesting that Everton – along with Chelsea, Leicester City and Manchester United – are interested in landing Fry.
Fellow homegrown defender Ben Gibson has attracted huge interest, but Everton now appear to be focusing on the younger Fry, an England Under-21 international who stands at 6ft 3in tall, with a January move possibly in the pipeline.
