Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo have claimed that Everton are interested in Espanyol captain David Lopez once again, after first being linked with the versatile star in January.

The same outlet reported six months ago that The Toffees wanted the 28-year-old with just hours remaining in the January transfer window, but a move failed to materialise.

It is believed that Everton are not the only club interested in Lopez, with La Liga duo Real Betis and Valencia also said to be keen on the commanding star who can play at centre-back or in central midfield.

Last season, Lopez starred in La Liga, missing just one game in Spain’s top tier – helping Espanyol keep 15 clean sheets during their 2017-18 campaign. Espanyol finished in a strong 11th place.

Everton could face Premier League competition in signing Lopez, too, with Spanish website PericosOnline claim Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have both tabled offers for Lopez.

It is believed that Lopez has a release clause worth £35.3million, but the report claims Everton and the two La Liga sides are unwilling to meet such a figure. He has two years remaining on his current contract.
