Billy Gilmour could reportedly end up in limbo at Brighton & Hove Albion just weeks after signing for the Premier League side due to the departure of Graham Potter, with Everton and Rangers missing out on the Scottish youngster.
According to the Sun, the midfielder’s future on the south coast is already in doubt amid Potter’s move to Chelsea, with the English manager the main reason Gilmour left the Blues to sign for Brighton in deal worth a reported £9m, snubbing the likes of Everton and Rangers.
The British giants were both reportedly interested in signing the 21-year-old playmaker this summer as Gilmour’s time at Chelsea came quickly apparent that the midfielder had to move on, however, this was when Thomas Tuchel was at the club, with the German being sacked just days after the youngster’s transfer to Brighton.
In a cruel twist of irony, Gilmour’s new manager, Potter, was snapped up by Chelsea in a whirlwind move that has left Brighton scrambling for a replacement and the Scotland international in limbo, with the Seagulls’ potential new manager someone who might not favour the youngster.
Indeed, Gilmour could have been better off staying with Chelsea with the hindsight that Potter would be appointed by the Blues, however, the midfielder is now a Brighton player, and the former Rangers academy starlet now has to hope that the south coast side’s new boss is a fan of his style of play.
Whilst there’s a good chance that Brighton’s new manager will follow a similar philosophy to Potter, there’s always a possibility that Gilmour’s new boss could be a fan of a more conservative approach to football, and this could be a kicker for the youngster as well as for Everton and Rangers.

Gilmour is regarded by many as one of Britain’s best-emerging talents, and signing for Brighton under Potter seemed like an incredible move for the youngster, however, with Chelsea snapping up the English coach, the midfielder can now only pray his replacement is someone who wants a player of his qualities.
After all, Brighton appointing a coach who strays from Potter’s style of play could make Gilmour regret moving to the south coast, and the Seagulls could look to loan out the youngster in January if such an outcome happens in the days to come.
