Report: Everton put off Bolton’s Jake Turner by £4m price tag

Everton and Manchester United are both keen on Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Jake Turner.

According to a report from The Sun, both Everton and Manchester United have been put off making a move for Bolton goalkeeper Jake Turner as the Trotters have slapped a £4 million price tag on the youngster.

Turner is yet to make his debut for the Championship strugglers, but clearly seems set for an extremely bright future, with the Toffees and Red Devils keeping a keen eye on his progress.

The Premier League pair may have been hoping that Bolton’s well-publicised financial problems may have opened the door for a bargain deal for Turner to be done, but The Sun is now suggesting that their asking price has taken both teams aback.

The Sun suggests that Bolton want £4 million for the 18-year-old despite the fact that he is yet to make his first-team debut for Phil Parkinson’s men, and that has put Everton and United off.

While it may be a gamble for either to pay that amount for a player who is yet to make his bow in professional football, it is something of a surprise that the top flight pair have been put off.

For United and Everton to have the teenager on their radar, they must have seen something special in him that can be built upon – and that obviously comes at a cost. And £4 million hardly seems a lot of money to either club in today’s game.

And if Turner ends up realising his full potential, the team that ultimately takes the gamble and meets Bolton’s valuation will surely be delighted with their decision to do so.
