Everton are attempting to push through a deal to sign trialist Luuk Kluiters as Marcel Brands prepares to raid his former club AZ Alkmaar.
That’s according to the Liverpool Echo, who report that Kluiters has been training at Finch Farm recently in order to try and win a contract.
The 18-year-old would only be a signing for the Under-23’s as things stand, but Brands may feel he has found a diamond in the rough.
Brands spent five years as AZ’s Director of Football between 2005 and 2010, and likely still has great contacts with the Eredivisie club.
Kluiters appears to have popped up on Everton’s radar, and Everton are working to get him a work permit – but that could be a problem.
The teenager may not meet the required criteria in a post-Brexit world, so Everton and Brands face a nervous wait.

Kluiters, 18, is billed as a right-footed centre back on Transfermarkt, who also state that he stand at a huge 6ft 4in tall.
Everton seemingly feel that Kluiters – who can play for the Netherlands or Suriname – has a bright future ahead of him, and want to take a punt on him fulfilling his potential.
Much will depend on that work permit though, with Kluiters’ dream Premier League move hanging in the balance.
