Report: Everton preparing bid for Leicester’s Jamie Vardy

Everton are planning to rival Chelsea in the final days of the transfer window for the signing of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Everton are considering completing their transfer window by rivalling Chelsea for the signature of Leicester striker Jamie Vardy.

The Mirror reports that despite bringing Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney through the door this summer, Ronald Koeman remains determined to bolster his goalscoring ranks following the departure of Romelu Lukaku, and Vardy – who is a £40 million-rated target for the champions – appears to be at the top of the Toffees’ list.

Vardy has begun the new season displaying the kind of form that he showed during the Foxes’ stunning title win in 2016, scoring twice in their opening three games.

The Mirror suggests that both Everton and Chelsea are able to offer him better terms than the £100,000 a week deal that he signed with Leicester last summer when Arsenal came calling.

And with former Leicester scout Steve Walsh swapping the King Power Stadium for a director of football role at Goodison Park last year, the Mirror hints that Everton may have a slight advantage over Chelsea in the race.

The Mirror adds that Everton also remain interested in a move for Blues forward Diego Costa – and a loan move for the 28-year-old could potentially be discussed today as the two teams meet at Stamford Bridge.

With £150 million already spent during this window, it would certainly not be out of the question to suggest that Everton will have few qualms about making the kind of bid for Vardy that gives Leicester and the 30-year-old plenty to think about during the final days before the deadline.

And if Vardy is about to enjoy the kind of season that evokes memories of the Foxes’ title win – when he scored 24 times – then signing him during the coming days could prove to be a masterstroke from the Toffees, who have undoubtedly enjoyed an incredibly impressive window.
