Everton are clearly hoping that the mouth-watering contract will do enough to see them win the race for Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

A report from the Daily Express has suggested that Everton are hoping to win the race to sign Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford by offering the stopper a contract worth £90,000 a week.

The Express reports that Pickford’s days at the Stadium of Light are numbered with relegation to the Championship appearing to be something of a certainty.

It certainly seems that a number of teams are ready to hand the 23-year-old the chance to continue playing at the highest level, with the Express suggesting that Everton, Arsenal and Manchester City are all keen.

However, the Express adds that the Toffees are hoping to win the race by handing Pickford a deal that is within touching distance of six figures.

Given the England under-21 international’s potential, those close to him would surely be wise to advise him to join a club that will offer him the amount of first-team football that he has enjoyed with the Black Cats this season, and given Everton’s goalkeeper situation, a switch to Goodison Park may well be a great opportunity.

Neither Joel Robles or Maarten Stekelenburg have sent a clear message to Ronald Koeman that they deserve to be number one for the Merseyside outfit, so Pickford has a great chance of quickly becoming the first choice.

But with both current Everton stoppers arguably strong performers on their day, Pickford would also be helped in his development by having two capable understudies pushing him to maintain his already high standards.
