According to Le10sport, Everton are preparing an offer for Denis Bouanga but they face heavy competition from Spanish sides Valencia, Sevilla and Real Betis.
Bouanga has been linked with an exit from Saint-Etienne following a terrific campaign.
The skilful winger posted an impressive 12 goals and five assists in his debut season at the club.
Buzzsport in France claimed Rennes have already seen a £9 million bid turned down, while Everton have been cited as suitors from the Premier League.

Now, Le10sport claim Everton are preparing their own offer but face competition from Spain.
The French editorial add that Bouanga is ready for a new challenge abroad, with Sevilla an exciting proposition with the club securing Champions League football.
But Everton have the finances to make the winger a very tempting offer.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side must look at strengthening this summer. In Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, there is top potential, but the duo lack creativity from behind.
Everton’s wide players aren’t good enough to help the club break into the top four, while there are reservations over midfield duo Tom Davies and Andre Gomes.
The recent 1-1 draw at home to Aston Villa showed Everton’s lack of creativity.
Bouanga is quick, skilful and importantly a threat in the final third. At 25, he has his best years ahead of him while holding a potentially high re-sale value.
If Everton harbour hopes of signing him for a potential modest fee, then the Merseyside club may have to act quickly with the Spanish league now finished.
