According to a report in the Daily Mail, Everton have scouted Marten De Roon ahead of the summer transfer window.
Everton are keen to improve their options in central-midfield, and Ronald Koeman has been impressed by what he has seen from De Roon this term.
The one-time Holland international has been a key part of Middlesbrough’s starting line-up, making 32 Premier League appearances.
De Roon was selected to feature against Chelsea, but how much Everton’s scouts will have got from watching De Roon in Boro’s match against Chelsea is debatable.
Boro were overwhelmed by the Premier League champions-in-waiting, and fell to a 3-0 defeat, with De Roon not really getting involved.
The 26-year-old has impressed hugely over the campaign though, and looks to have the capabilities of playing in the Premier League.
Everton are now believed to be plotting a bid, but Boro are determined to not lose their key players on the cheap.
Middlesbrough want to make a profit on the £12 million which they paid to bring De Roon to the Riverside Stadium last summer, meaning he could be an expensive addition for the Toffees.
