Everton are hoping to beat Arsenal to the signature of Charlton Athletic defender Ezri Konsa.

Konsa is the latest Addicks youngster catching the eye in the divisions above, and looks set to follow the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Ademola Lookman and Joe Gomez by making a move to the Premier League as ESPN reports that the League One side are resigned to losing the 20-year-old.

What may well help the Toffees in their pursuit of the defender perhaps, is the fact that the Merseyside club have done business with Charlton fairly recently, having signed Lookman from The Valley at the start of the year.

Though Lookman has not enjoyed the best time since arriving at Goodison Park for £11 million (via BBC Sport), he proved with his Everton debut that he clearly has the potential to be a special player – and the change of manager may perhaps help him prove that.
And with Konsa looking destined for an extremely bright career at the highest level also, it would arguably be a coup for Everton if they did manage to win the race for the youngster, especially given the competition for his signature.
