According to The Times, Everton are now planning to give Lucas Digne a new contract amid interest from Manchester City.
The Daily Mail reported over the weekend that City are prioritising the signing of a new left back in the January transfer window, with a couple of targets in mind.
One of them is Ajax star Nicolas Tagliafico, but they are also pursuing a target closer to home in Everton star Digne.
However, Everton seemingly have no plans to sell the Frenchman, and are moving quickly to block City’s interest by offering him new terms.
The 27-year-old joined Everton in an £18mllion move from Barcelona in 2018, and has been an attacking force for the Toffees ever since.
Digne has racked up five goals and 17 assists in 87 games for Everton, and with Benjamin Mendy failing to kick on, City now want him.
Everton hope that the renewed ambition under Carlo Ancelotti and the financial backing from Farhad Moshiri means they can keep hold of Digne and prevent him from pursuing a move to City.
Digne is currently out injured, which may leave Everton hoping that clubs are somewhat put off, but they certainly want to keep him out of City’s clutches in 2021.
