Everton ‘want to launch a £25 million summer raid’ for West Ham United left-back Aaron Cresswell, according to the Sun on Sunday (April 8th, Goals page 13).
The report claims Everton manager Sam Allardyce is a big fan of Cresswell, whom he signed for West Ham four years ago, and wants him to compete with Leighton Baines.
According to a Sun on Sunday source, the Liverpool-born 28-year-old is keen on a return to his hometown – although he has previously admitted to being a fan of Everton’s city rivals.
Does Cresswell move hinge on Allardyce?
The Everton boss’s future remains uncertain, with many fans having failed to take to him since his December appointment, while the Toffees continue to be linked with alternatives (Paulo Fonesca and Marco Silva, according to the Sunday Mirror – April 8th, page 67).
Either of those is likely to have other options in mind when it comes to strengthening what has proved a problem area in Baines’ absence.
Cresswell, who has three caps for England, still has three years left on his West Ham contract.
