Everton playmaker James Rodriguez has landed in Qatar to discuss a potential transfer to an unnamed club.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Colombian international has landed in the Middle East to negotiate an exit from Merseyside. Rodriguez has not featured once for Everton this season, and a move to Qatar appears to be on the cards.

Since the departure of Carlo Ancelotti this summer, Rodriguez has become distant from Everton. The Italian manager was a key reason why the former Real Madrid star joined the Premier League side in the first place.

However, with the ex-Toffees boss returning to Madrid, Rodriguez’s future with Everton always looked a doubt. And now it appears that a transfer could finally be happening for the 30-year-old.

AC Milan had been keen on Rodriguez during the summer transfer window, but Qatar now appears to be the most likely destination for the Everton midfielder. Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir were also eager on the Colombian.

Indeed, the saga could be drawing to a close in the coming weeks. With Rodriguez in Qatar, talks could accelerate between the playmaker and the unnamed club the South American star is in discussions with.

As for Everton, the departure of Rodriguez could see the club save £7.2m on wages as per Salary Sport. Rodriguez is one of the club’s highest-paid players.
