Everton are leading the race to sign Jean-Clair Todibo from Barcelona, Le 10 Sport suggest.

Everton are battling with Napoli for Tobido, with Rennes now dropping out of the race to sign him.

Todibo has been made available to loan by Barcelona, and it seems that Everton are now looking to push through a deal before deadline day.

The Toffees have done some great work in the transfer window so far, but they have still not brought in the centre-back that Carlo Ancelotti wants.

Everton pushed to sign Fikayo Tomori, but he seems to be back in Chelsea’s plans, and Tobido now appears to be their alternative option.

The French reports suggest there is a degree of confidence that Tobido will end up at Goodison Park, and he could be a smart addition, even if only on a short-term deal.

Tobido put in some excellent performance for Schalke in the Bundesliga last term, where he proved he was capable of playing regular first-team football.

Todibo would offer Everton more pace and composure on the ball at the back, and his arrival would help increase optimism even further, after their wonderful start to the new campaign.

The Independent claimed last week that Barca want any club who take Tobido on loan to put in a clause which means that they have to buy him for £18 million at the end of the season, but whether Everton will agree to those terms remains to be seen.
