Everton have joined Newcastle United in the race to snap up Manchester City talent Shea Charles this summer.

Manchester City talent Shea Charles is wanted by Everton this summer amid links to Newcastle United.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Charles is now wanted at Goodison Park.

Everton have secured their Premier League status and now need to invest in players who can avoid another relegation battle.

Charles isn’t a proven Premier League player who can make an instant impact but he is highly rated at City.

Born and bred in Manchester, Charles has come up through the City ranks and is one of their top young players.

The 19-year-old was on the bench for City against Brentford on Sunday and came on for his first senior appearance.

City may hope that this taste of first-team football can help tempt Charles into staying at the Etihad Stadium.

That won’t be easy task though with Everton now joining a host of other clubs in the race for Charles’ signature.

Everton join Newcastle United in race for Shea Charles

The Daily Mail reported in April that Newcastle United are interest in signing Charles.

The Magpies have landed two City recruitment staff members in recent times with Paul Midgley and Paul McLaren heading to St James’ Park.

Both of them will know Charles well and may well be driving Newcastle’s interest in the midfielder.

The Mail’s report added that Borussia Dortmund, Brentford and Leeds United also want to sign Charles.

The Northern Ireland international has been hailed as ‘magnificent’ by Michael O’Neill, who marvelled at his ability to drop from midfield into defence.

Everton must try to sell Charles on the idea of playing first-team football fairly quickly at Goodison Park rather than having to wait at City or Newcastle.
