Everton are leading in the race to sign Barcelona’s Jean Clair-Todibo, according to SPORT in Spain.

Everton are currently locked in a battle to sign the 20-year-old centre-back, who has caught the eye in Germany this term.

Todibo has spent the year on loan at Schalke, but they cannot afford the fee to make his transfer permanent.

That presents an opening for Everton, who are said to be right at the front of the queue for the £22 million man now.

Everton are believed to have made signing a central defender one of their top priorities for the summer.

The Toffees have been short in the position this season, with Carlo Ancelotti only really having three players to choose from in the position.

Mason Holgate has really impressed, but some doubts still remain over Yerry Mina and Michael Keane.

That could present an opportunity for Todibo to walk straight into Everton’s starting line-up if he does join, and that could make a move to Goodison Park even more appealing for the youngster.
