According to a report from The Sun, Everton are on the verge of selling young midfielder Liam Walsh to Bristol City in a £1 million deal when the January transfer window opens.

Walsh has been a regular for the Toffees’ youth sides in recent years, but unlike many of his youngsters who have come through the ranks at Goodison Park down the years, the 20-year-old is yet to make his first-team debut for the Premier League side.

And it appears that he may well move on before he gets the chance to represent the first-team, as The Sun reports that the midfielder – who has been on Everton’s books for 14 years – is set to leave Goodison Park to join Bristol City next month.

The Sun suggests that Lee Johnson has met with the youngster’s advisers and a deal could now be in the pipeline – with the Robins paying an up-front fee with a further amount being paid after a certain number of appearances.

If the move does go through, it will be Walsh’s second spell in the second tier this season as he recently returned from a loan spell with Birmingham City – and he will certainly be hoping that any switch to Ashton Gate works out better than his time with the Blues did as he returned to Merseyside early, having made just three appearances at St Andrew’s.

Johnson will be hoping that Walsh will help City capitalise on their current position in the Championship. Following their win over Sheffield United last week, they now sit third in the table just four points off the top two, and have won seven of their last nine.
