Frank De Boer’s agent has reportedly opened talks over becoming the new Everton manager.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Everton held talks with Frank de Boer’s agent on Friday as the Toffees make their first move for a new manager.
Everton chose to part company with manager Roberto Martinez on Thursday, bringing the Spaniard’s three-year spell at Goodison Park to an end after a 3-0 defeat at Sunderland on Wednesday evening.
The Spaniard leaves having picked up just six points from his final ten Premier League games in charge, and now the search is on for a new manager, with David Unsworth and Joe Royle taking charge of Sunday’s final game of the season against Norwich City.
A host of names have already been touted for the job, including Manuel Pellegrini, Ronald Koeman, Mark Hughes and even former manager David Moyes – but one candidate appears to be leading the race by some distance.
Dutchman Frank de Boer has earned a strong reputation for himself during his time as Ajax manager, winning four Eredivisie titles between 2011 and 2014, helping the Amsterdam club dominate Dutch football once again.
However, having lost the title to PSV Eindhoven last season, Ajax were again pipped by Phillip Cocu’s men – and De Boer has resigned from his position at Ajax to pursue other projects.
Now, the Daily Mail report that De Boer’s agent Guido Albers held talks with Everton on Friday about a possible deal for his client, with the former Barcelona and Rangers star seemingly Everton’s top target right now.
Having worked with young players at Ajax, De Boer could be great for the likes of John Stones, Ross Barkley, Gerard Deulofeu and Romelu Lukaku at Goodison Park, and whilst he needs to prove himself outside of the Netherlands, appointing the 45-year-old could be a smart move from the Toffees.
