According to Tuttomercatoweb, Everton have made their first approach towards Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva as they attempt to pip AC Milan.

It’s claimed that Everton have now made their move for Silva after prior links earlier this year. Milan are interested, but have yet to put forward a proposal.

Silva will allegedly decide his future in the coming weeks, with Everton potentially formulating a ‘concrete offer’ to try and lure the Brazilian to Goodison Park.

Silva’s contract at Paris Saint-Germain expires this summer. With no extension in place, the defender could well move on – and a reunion with Ancelotti may be on the cards.

Ancelotti signed Silva for AC Milan way back in 2009, and whilst they only worked together briefly, they reunited at PSG in 2012.

Ancelotti hasn’t actually worked with Silva for all that long; 18 months in total, but Silva has previously praised the influence of the Italian on his career.

So what of these rumours? Everton do need a centre back, and attempts to tie down the likes of Gabriel or Jean-Clair Todibo have so far fallen short.

Silva brings great pedigree and leadership, but he turns 36 in September, and committing big wages to a player of that wage seems unlikely in the Marcel Brands era.

If Everton can’t land their big targets, going for a free agent may make some sense given his relationship with Ancelotti – but his profile doesn’t quite the Everton mould.
