Everton are reportedly looking into signing Inter Milan’s Joao Mario.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Everton have made contact over a deal for Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario in an attempt to reunite him with manager Marco Silva.
The Toffees have yet to make a move in the summer transfer window, but manager Silva and new director of football Marcel Brands will be hoping for movement soon ahead of the transfer deadline.
Adding another midfield option may be on Silva’s wish list if he can offload the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin and Muhamed Besic, and he continues to be linked with signing one of his former players.
Recent speculation has linked Silva with a move to sign Sporting midfielder Joao Mario, and Tuttomercatoweb report that contact has been made in order to gauge the possibility of a deal.
It’s added that agent Kia Joorabchian – famous in Premier League circles for his work in bringing Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano to West Ham United in 2006 – is working hard to get Mario a Premier League move this summer, with Everton possibly his best bet.
Midfielder Mario, 25, worked under Silva at Sporting in Portugal during the 2014-15 season, and impressed with seven goals and five assists in 45 outings, playing either as a central or attacking midfielder.
Mario can play out wide too, but Silva seemingly preferred him centrally, and that may mean he plays either alongside Idrissa Gueye or as competition for Gylfi Sigurdsson, should Everton sign him.
Mario spent the second half of last season on loan with West Ham, bagging two goals and one assist in 13 games, and could now return to the Premier League if Everton and Joorabchian can strike a deal, with Inter unlikely to stand in his way as they look to raise funds this summer.
