Everton target Gabriel looks set to move to Napoli, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Everton have been chasing Gabriel for much of the summer so far, and the central defender even had a medical at Goodison Park a few months back, according to the Independent.

But he is now on the verge of moving to Napoli in a deal worth £22 million.

That could be a blow for Everton, who were seemingly leading the race to sign the Lille defender.

Gabriel would have been a seriously impressive addition for the Toffees, as he is regarded as one of the finest defenders in France.

However, it seems that Everton will have to look elsewhere as Carlo Ancelotti aims to strengthen his defence.

Everton only have Jarrad Branthwaite, Mason Holgate, Michael Keane and Yerry Mina as their centre-back options currently in their squad, and the Toffees will surely make it a priority to land another defender this summer.
