Everton’s hopes of signing David Neres may be coming to an end.

According to Yahoo in Brazil, Ajax are set to secure winger David Neres to a new contract after offering him an ‘astronomical’ deal to stay in Amsterdam.
Neres, 22, has starred for Ajax since his January 2017 move from Sao Paulo, and he played a key role in last season’s run to the the Champions League semi-finals.
The Brazilian international hit 12 goals and 15 assists for Ajax last season, starring with his blistering pace and impressive end product.
Unsurprisingly, Neres has attracted major interest as a result. The Telegraph recently noted that Everton were keen on Neres, with a £35million price tag mentioned.
Marcel Brands will know all about Neres from his time in the Netherlands, but it seems that any Everton hopes are coming to an end.
It’s believed that Ajax have agreed to pay Neres’ wage demands, which means he is now set to sign an ‘astronomical’ contract to stay at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

That’s a blow for many clubs, including Everton, who will have believed that Neres was ready for a big move on after impressing so much with the Dutch giants last season.
For Ajax though, what a boost. They’ve already lost Frenkie de Jong, and may yet lose the likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Donny van de Beek, so managing to keep Neres out of Everton’s clutches is a huge move – even if they’ve had to pay big money to do it.
