AC Milan skipper Alessio Romagnoli will be allowed to leave the Serie A giants for £17 million as contract talks with the alleged Everton target hit an impasse, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport.

When the Rossoneri made a talented centre-half their youngest captain since the legendary Franco Baresi in 2018, it is fair to say they didn’t expect to sell Romagnoli at a £7 million loss three years later.

But that is the reality facing Stefano Pioli’s side today, with the Italy international out of contract in 2022.

According to reports coming out of Italy today, Romagnoli wants £100,000-a-week (£5 million-a-year) if he is to commit his future to AC Milan.

That is almost double the 26-year-old’s current wage, with agent Mino Raiola once again proving to be a tough negotiator.

Given that Romagnoli’s form is leaving a lot to be desired as Fikayo Tomori and Simon Kjaer threaten to become Pioli’s first-choice central defensive partnership, it should be no surprise that Milan would consider cashing in.

Gazzetta report that Juventus are interested, as are a Barcelona side in the market for a classy, left-footed centre-half.

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is also a huge fan of Romagnoli, according to Il Milanista.

While the former Roma ace might not be Baresi’s heir apparent after all – rag-dolled by Romelu Lukaku in the recent 3-0 Milan derby defeat to Inter – a reduced £17 million price-tag certainly feels tempting.
