According to Forza Roma, Everton are intent on signing Robin Olsen on a permanent basis once his loan from Roma ends.

The Italian news outlet claim that there is no chance of the 42-cap Sweden international staying in Rome, as Everton plan to buy him.

It comes after the shot-stopper himself told Everton’s official website that he’d love to stay at Goodison Park for the long-term.

Back in February, Olsen said: “We want to stay, but it is not me who decides. I can only cross my fingers and see what the club says.”

For much of this season, the man who Roma paid €8.5 million (£7.29 million) for has played second fiddle to Jordan Pickford.

The 31-year-old has made just five Premier League appearances, conceding eight goals and keeping one clean sheet.

Away from the Premier League, he has made three FA Cup appearances as well as one outing in the Carabao Cup.

Everton have won two and drawn one of Olsen’s five games in the Premier League.

He has proven to be a solid deputy, and in our view, Everton need to sign him permanently.

Behind Pickford and Olsen, Carlo Ancelotti only has 21-year-old João Virgínia as a goalkeeping option.

The youngster even ended up facing Manchester City in the FA Cup on March 20th, as a result of injuries to Pickford and Olsen.

It’s quite normal for a club to have three goalkeeping options, so Everton should ensure they sign the Swede and head into next season with him, Pickford and Virgínia in that department.
