According to a report from The Sun, Everton are amongst a host of European teams that are currently having a look at Den Haag defender Wilfried Kanon.

Kanon joined the Eredivisie side back in 2013 and has made 84 league appearances for the club in that time, including 18 starts during the current campaign which has seen Den Haag threaten to secure one of the highest finishes in the team’s history.

They currently sit ninth and are just three points outside the Europa League play-off places, and yet they are, comfortably, the lowest goalscorers in the top-half of the table which tells you something about their defensive record.

The Sun reports that Everton are keen to strengthen their defensive options this summer, and Kanon is on their radar. However, the reports adds that Real Betis, Villarreal and Eibar are also keen on the 24-year-old who will command a fee of just £2 million at the end of the campaign.

Good target for Everton?

It has been a very poor year for Everton’s defence, so it is little surprise that the club are determined to strengthen their options at the back in the coming months. Whether the fans will be particularly pleased that they are looking at a centre-back who has spent his career to date in Romania and The Netherlands is doubtful.

For £2 million, it could prove to be a real bargain if the Toffees do end up winning the race for the Ivory Coast international, but the supporters will surely be hoping that they have much bigger plans in the pipeline as they look to put the disappointment of this season behind them.
