According to Jeune Afrique, Everton are interested in snapping up Saint-Etienne defender Florentin Pogba, but face competition from RB Leipzig.

The Toffees are gearing up for their return to the Europa League, and manager Ronald Koeman will subsequently want to bring in new signings to boost his squad.

Centre back may be one area that Koeman looks to strengthen, given that Phil Jagielka is ageing, and Ramiro Funes Mori has yet to prove himself in the Premier League, meaning Ashley Williams may need a new partner at the back.

Now, Jeune Afrique report that Saint-Etienne defender Florentin Pogba is a target for Everton, but German side RB Leipzig are also interested in signing him this summer.

Pogba, 26, joined Saint-Etienne from Sedan in 2012, and after initially returning to Sedan on loan, he has become a regular with Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1.

The Guinean international, who has 12 caps to his name, impressed against Manchester United and his brother Paul Pogba in the Europa League earlier this year, which has seemingly attracted interest.

Standing at over 6ft 3in tall, Pogba is a physically imposing player with superb strength, and his versatility to play at left back may also be appealing to Everton given Leighton Baines’ injury problems and advancing years.

With just a year left on his Saint-Etienne contract, Pogba could be sold on the cheap this summer before he walks away for nothing in 2018 – and Everton may well battle RB Leipzig in an attempt to land a bargain defensive option this summer.
